I completed both my masters and doctoral degrees from The University of Texas at Austin. My training continued on internship at The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, as well as two years of postdoctoral training in the Austin area, providing comprehensive mental health services through an area school district’s Psychological Services Team. I also served on the district’s multidisciplinary Autism assessment team, and served as the primary consult for the emotionally/behaviorally challenged classrooms at elementary. During my time in hospital and community clinic settings, I developed a specialization in working with people and families impacted by chronic illness, such as cancer and blood disorders, and chronic mental illness. Additionally, I have worked for the last five years in a group practice in Austin (ApaCenter), where I had the opportunity to collaborate with a wide variety of professionals in the community in the treatment of my clients.  I have also developed good relationships with schools (both public and private) in the greater Austin area, as I believe strongly in collaborating with the various systems in which my clients (most particularly, child and adolescent) are imbedded.

With my background in a wide variety of settings, I have gained extensive experience in the treatment of mood and anxiety symptoms in children, teenagers, young adult, and adults. I incorporate elements of solution-focused, cognitive-behavioral and family systems therapy, tailored to meet each individual where they are in the course of their lives. Because I have over a decade of experience in providing therapy and assessment services, I am able to suggest integrated treatment approaches for the whole person, incorporating belief systems, past experiences overcoming adversity, and future motivations. Incorporating sessions to explore important relationships can also be helpful, and my extensive training in family therapy allows me to take on some challenging situations in a respectful manner that balances the concerns of the various individuals. Incorporating this kind of collaborative, systems therapy helps families arrive at a new understanding of the identified client or how their family can better communicate, in general.
